Lakers Start Their Season at the Yellowjacket Open

The Lakers started their competition season on Saturday at the Yellowjacket Open in Rochester MN. Head Coach Cody Alesch is optimistic about the day's performance and had this to say "The day had some up's and downs with results but I thought the guys responded well as the day went on.  As a coaching staff it is always an educational day watching the guys wrestle in competition for the first time.  We are looking forward to getting in the practice room this week and correcting the little things we need to improve on,'' The Lakers had five wrestlers place including three runner finishes. Hassan Krigger started the day 3-0, and made it to the finals at 125 but fell to Zach Villarreal from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse finishing the day with a 3-1 record and second place. Jordin James lost his first match of the day, but then won five in a row concluding the day with a 4-1 win Over Parker Huss from RCTC to finish 5-1 on the day and a 5th place finish at 133. Anthony Fisher won three in a row making it to the finals only to fall to Jordan Meyer from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire finishing 3-1 on the day and a 2nd place at 141. Anthony Maia also made the finals at 157 with three wins to start the day but lost to Brock Benitz from Upper Iowa University 6-5.  Bumni Smith made the semifinals at 165 but injury defaulted in his final two matches and took 4th place.
