The Laker wrestling team fared well against a tough competition at the Buena Vista Open, in Storm Lake, IA. With a field full of Division 2, Division 3, NAIA and JUCO talent eight wrestlers placed in the top six at their respective weight classes lead by first place finishes from Anthony Fisher at 141 and Bumni Smith at 165. In route to a first place finish Anthony Fisher scored bonus points in all four of his matches, and Bumni Smith recorded one technical fall. Hasan Krigger and Jordin James both placed 3rd after falling in the semi-finals at 125 and 133 respectively. McCoy Tekautz took fourth place at 157 recording two technical falls along the way. Isaiah Cox went 3-1 on the day taking fifth place. Both Isaac Shelton and Montana Fuller took sixth place at 157 and 285 respectively going 2-2 on the day. Head coach Cody Alesch had this to say about the team's performance "Lots of guys made improvements in the way they wrestled and competed. When I see our guys working on aspects of their wrestling that presented struggles in the past it makes me optimistic about how we are going to do for the rest of the season."
