5 Laker Wrestlers Earn National Rankings, Team Ranked #2

The Laker wrestling team enters the season ranked #2 in the country by intermatwrestle.com. Five wrestlers earned individual rankings at the respective weight classes.

At 125 lbs returning National Qualifier Kevin Savaria earned the #8 rankings. Kevin was 3x State Finalist and a 2x State Champion from Wilmington, NC. Last year Kevin went 1-2 at last year's National Tournament recording a pin in the first round against Esco Walker of North Idaho.

Anthony Fisher from Hartly, DE is currently ranked # at 141  lbs. In high school, he was a DIAA State Champion, and a FloNationals All-American. Last season he was an NJCAA National Qualifier @ 141 lbs, going 1-2 and the national tournament pinning  Rashidi Kikopa of Northland in the first round.

Returning All-American and Team Captain David Hollingsworth III is ranked  #1 in the country at 157 lbs. David is up a weight class from last season where he took 4th at the NJCAA National Tournament. David is from Baltimore, MD where he attended Owings Mills High School and was a 4x Regional Champion, 3x County Champion, and 2x State Champion.

Evyn Insalaco comes to Iowa Lakes via Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL and is ranked #8 at 165 lbs. Originally from Brunswick, he was a 3x state place winner in addition to being a 4x All-American in high school.

Bunmi Smith is up another returning All-American up a weight class from last season originally from Woodbine, GA Bunmi attended Georgia wrestling powerhouse  Camden County High School. Last season he was a regional finalist and an NJCAA All-American placing 7th at the National tournament @ 165 lbs. In addition in high school, he was a State Runner-Up as a freshman, took 3rd place as a sophomore, and finish his high school career with back to back State Championships his junior and senior year. In addition to being a 4x state place winner, he was also a 2x NHSCA Finalist.

The Laker Wrestling team takes the mats next against #10 Ellsworth at home on Wednesday, November 7th at 7 pm.
