This Sunday Iowa Lakes will host the Central District wrestling qualifier in Estherville beginning at 10 am. There will be lots of talent in the gym with all of the teams ranked at the national level: #4 NIACC, #5 Iowa Western, #6 Iowa Central, #8 Ellsworth, and #20 Iowa Lakes.
There will be 26 athletes ranked nationally individually including four ranked at #1: Cardeionte Wilson at 149 lbs from Ellsworth, Christian Minto at 165 lbs from NIACC, Dillyn Miller at 197 lbs from Iowa Western, and Boone McDermott at 285 lbs from Iowa Central.
Three of the wrestlers from Iowa lakes are ranked individually: freshmen Miles Knuckles is ranked #9 at 133 lbs and Deville Dentis is ranked #10 at 149 lbs, and sophomore Robert Hall III is ranked #7 at 141 lbs.
Head Coach Cody Alesch is optimistic about post-season play, "Our team is young and have dealt with numerous injuries but I feel we are coming together at the right time and we will be as close to full strength as we can be come Sunday. It will be great for the guys to compete in their gym; it always brings out the best it seems when you have that advantage. Competing well at the district meet in coming out healthy are always good feelings when the day is over. There will be a lot of high-level wrestling on Sunday and it is extremely fun to watch especially if you are a wrestling fan. We are excited to see what our guys bring and how far they have come."
Wrestlers who advance beyond the district qualifier will earn a spot at the National Tournament held in Council Bluffs, IA March 6th and 7th.
