Iowa Lakes has seven wrestlers competing at the national tournament on March 6th and 7th in Council Bluffs at the Mid-American Center.
The Lakers enter the tournament ranked 20th in the nation.
Coach Alesch stated, "Coach Alesch doesn't mind that ranking because he knows where his team is and a finish much higher than that should be achieved once the tournament is concluded."
Lakers wrestling at the national tournament in their respective weight classes:
125 lbs Matt Jordan, FR from Des Moines, IA
133 lbs Miles Knuckles, FR from Akron, OK
141 lbs Robert Hall Jr., Killeen, TX
149 lbs Deville Dentis from Des Moines, IA
174 lbs Austin Hinzman from Akron, OH
184 lbs Logan Koedam from Orange City, IA
197 lbs Tyler Needham, Papillon, NE
The Lakers are extremely young this year as six out of the seven our freshmen with the lone sophomore being Robert Hall Jr.
"Some of that real excitement for us coaches is we don't truly know what to expect from the freshmen. A big tournament like this always reveals something about each wrestler we hadn't gotten to truly see yet. We feel this group is going to bring everything they have this week and good things are going to happen," Coach Alesch.
