Lakers Mitchell Williamson wins HWT Conference Title

Iowa Lakes wrestlers competed at the ICCAC wrestling tourney hosted by Iowa Western.  The team finished in 5th place led by sophomore Mitchell Williamson taking the title at 285 lbs.  Mitchell is ranked #3 in the country and defeated the 4th ranked wrestler Jorden Pryor from Iowa Central 2-1 in the title match.

"Mitchell didn't get to his offense like we wanted but he did wrestle a solid match and was able to come home with the championship.  Mitchell has really battled a lot of injuries again this season and fighting through some currently so it was good to see him go out and compete at the level he wants to.  He and I both know he is not where he needs to be yet but we are getting there.  He has one goal this season and this was a good step towards a National Title.  Our conference is extremely tough and good preparation for us as we look ahead to nationals," says Coach Alesch.

Massoma Endene fell short in his 174 lb finals match to Jose Rodriguez from Iowa Central by a score of 5-15.

"Massoma got an early takedown then struggled to get back to his offense.  It was a coachable moment for Massoma really.  He has been wrestling really well and sometime matches like this are a blessing in disguise.  He can step back and see what he needs to get better at and tune up before nationals.  He needed that match and a lot of good will come from it as we get back in the room this week," stated Alesch.

Other Laker wrestlers placing today were Karsten Johnson taking 3rd at 125 lbs, Jeremiah Boykins took 4th at 133 lbs., Jovanni Butler was 4th at 157 lbs.
