Lakers Finish 2Oth in the Country

The Iowa Lakes Men's Wrestling program concluded their season over the weekend at the National Tournament. With six National Qualifiers competing, Osvaldo Ocampo, Ayden Rader, Aiden Crawley, Fischer Hawkins, Ulises Placido, and Tyreik Davison all put their best foot forward against the best wrestlers in the country. Ayden Rader led the team earning All American honors by placing 8th at 133 lbs. Aiden Crawley came up just shy, losing by 2 points in a decisive match that determined if he would be an All-American. Additionally, Osvaldo Ocampo went 2-2 at 125 lbs, and Fischer Hawkins went 1-2 at 149 lbs.

Head Coach Corey Meyer had this to say about the team's performance. "Proud of this team! Several key performances stand out to me, Osvaldo at 125 lbs came up shy of qualifying for the National Tournament last year and was focused on making it this year. Although that's a great goal to have I was a little worried he would be complacent after he punched his ticket, but the exact opposite happened he picked it up and had the best performance of the year! Ayden Rader had a lot of adversity going as far back as an injury in January that impacted his training. Up until this weekend, I had never seen him wrestle the way he wrestled and for him to become All American is a massive accomplishment. Aiden Crawley also made a huge leap this weekend. He would be the first to tell you he wasn't pleased with his performance at Regionals but was very reflective and was able to identify why and make those changes. It's hard to see him come up short of his goals but he is the type of person who will use the motivation for next season! We finished 20th in the country and beat a handful of teams who beat us during the season, and it was an entire team effort, not just the six qualifiers I'm proud of the way the wrestlers who didn't qualify were able to contribute to our finish. It would not have been possible without them!"
