The Iowa Lakes Women's soccer has started their 2019 campaign, and are looking to be more competitive than last year.

The Lakers are coming off a 6th place finish in a very tough ICCAC conference and were picked by the coaches to finish 5th in the conference.

"The team is much more technically sound this year. I am looking forward to see what they can do in this conference," commented Head Coach Blake Viedenkamp.

The Lakers return captain Laura McGuinn. She will be relied on heavily this season for her leadership. Crystal Molineaux brings a lot of experience on the defensive end.

Incoming players that will see significant minutes include Daina Brazier, Sofia Hernanzdez, and Ciara Joyce. Brazier will play goalie and is a fundamentally sound keeper. Hernandez is a center mid who loves to get on the ball as much as possible. Joyce is a newcomer, but as a transfer she will bring some experience to the center mid position.

"We have a good group of sophomores who are really easy to get a long with. I am sure they will take the freshman under their wing, and it will be a fun year," commented Viedenkamp.

The Lakers are currently 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. The Lakers host Minnesota West Community College today, September 4, 2019 at 2:00pm. The Lakers will then host Heartland Community College on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
