Lakers Pickup 5th Straight Win

Iowa Lakes women's soccer won its fifth consecutive game against NIACC. Over the past five years, this is the best start to a season for the women's program. Coach Cain stated "The girls are improving each week, but they're still not at the level I expect them to reach, so I'm excited to see how far we can go." Alexis Vasquez assisted Alicia Cortez's goal in the fifth minute to get the Lakers off to a strong start. After intercepting a pass from a NIACC midfielder, Cortez drove 20 yards on a dribble to score the second of the game. With a 25-yard free kick, Faith Martin nabbed her third of the season to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. With an assist from Tishanique Graham, Paola Then scored her first goal of the season to make it 4-0. Only 20 minutes into the first half, the Lakers were already on their way to another victory. Alexis Vasquez then added two goals striking in the 32nd and 38th minutes of the half. Vasquez's second goal came from a shot 30 yards out, bouncing off the post into the upper corner of the net. NIACC showed some resiliency in the second half, bouncing back and scoring in the 51st minute. The Lakers then responded with Maria Vilhena finding the net in the 57th minute assisted by Adriel Schultzen. NIACC struck again in the 65th minute for their second goal with a 40 yard strike from outside of the box. Vasquez sealed the game with her hat trick in the 87th minute with the final goal. An 8-2 win for the Iowa Lakes women's team was further evidence of their overall improvement and promising on what the future may hold.
