Women Swim Team Receive Scholar All-American Team Honor

Once again the Iowa Lakes Community College Women's Swim and Dive team received the Scholar All-American Team honor for the Spring 2018 semester. This award is given out by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America and is given to any team that is able to have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. This is the team's second time receiving this award this year.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America also named two Iowa Lakes Swimmers to the Scholar All-American team. Gabriela Reis and Shayna Asuncion received this high honor. In order to receive the award, the student must be named an All-American in their sport which for swimming is placing in the top five at Nationals. The second requirement that must be met is that the student-athlete must also achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher. Past winners of this high honor have included Olympians, Sullivan Trophy Recipients, and Elite 90 Selection. This is the first time receiving the honor for both Reis and Asuncion. Ries will be returning to Iowa Lakes this upcoming fall while Asuncion will be transferring to Northern State University to finish her Bachelor's degree.

Coach Anderson had this to say about the honors the team received, "I am so proud of all the hard work that these women put into their classes to receive this honor. It is not always easy to do but they continue to impress me with their work ethic and drive to do their best in every asset in their lives. They are setting a great example for incoming team members and have started a great tradition of academic success that I know will continue to make me and the Iowa Lakes community proud."
