Laker Swimmers Finish Fall Semester at Rochester Invite.

The Laker Women also experienced great success with Alexis Sell, Sarah Reid and Liz Crewe-Brown having the biggest time drops.  Reid dropped more than seventeen seconds in the 200 free and nearly seven seconds in the 100 free, achieving NJCAA National qualifying standards in both events.  Sell dropped nearly two seconds in the 50 free and five and a half seconds in the 100 free.  Crewe-Brown had significant time drops and lifetime bests in the 400 IM and 100 and 200 backstroke events.  Juliana Villa led the Laker women with the highest individual placings.  Villa was thirteenth in the 200 Freestyle and seventeenth in the 200 back.  "The competition level on the women's side was a little more difficult than the men's since there were three more women's teams.  The women didn't have as many individual finalists because the competition was so deep, but we were happy with their performances.  Sarah and Alexis helped generate excitement within the team and it was great to see them have such success."  Coach Peters remarked about the women's team.

The Laker Men had a phenomenal meet with 100% season best performances and nearly all lifetime bests.  Gabriel Carmona and Jacob Bohnert led the men with four top 16 finishes each.   Carmona finished in the top 16 in the 100 (11th) and 200 (7th) IM's, and 100 (14th) and 200 (10th) Breaststrokes.  Bohnert had top 16 finishes in the 100 (7th), 200 (12th) and 500 (15th) Freestyles and 100 Butterfly (12th). Garrett Nielson had two top 24 finishes in the 200 Butterfly (21st) and 100 Freestyle (22nd).  Juan Briseno finished 22nd in the 200 Butterfly to round out the individual scoring.  The four Laker men combined on all five relays and had massive time drops in each event.  Coach Peters was excited about their performances. "I measure every team's taper performance and this group of men was about the best I've ever coached.  They dropped an average of 1.25 seconds per 50 across all their events.  You shoot for a 0.5-1.0 second drop and they all far exceeded that amount with Carmona and Briseno dropping over 1.5 seconds per 50 in their events.  Their performances far exceeded my expectations and shows what we are doing in practices is really paying off.
