Laker Women Compete Well Against Iowa Central

The Laker Women's Swimmers kicked off the 2019-2020 season at Fort Dodge against Iowa Central.  Liz Crewe-Brown led the women with a win in the 100 backstroke (1:04.96).  Juliana Villa had a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle (57.90) and a third place finish in the 50 freestyle (26.86).  Mavi Valentin finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:16.75) and third in the 500 freestyle (6:12.49).  New team member, Maggie Jackson, had an impressive debut swimming the 50 and 100 freestyles and anchoring the 200 freestyle relay.  "Maggie was the surprise of the meet for the women," commented coach Todd Peters. "Maggie returned to swimming after leaving the sport to focus on basketball during high school.  The team encouraged her to join us this year and her quick improvement stood out at the meet.  She definitely swam faster than we expected in the first meet."

The Laker Women now prepare for their dual meet next weekend against Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN.  SMSU is a new Division II program and the Lakers will be their first home meet.
