After a slow start to the Battle of the Dells Tournament on Friday evening, the Lakers ended Saturday afternoon with a three set sweep over Highland Community College (IL). After dropping multiple two point sets the previous day, losing in three to College of DuPage and then again in five sets to Macomb Community College, the Lakers had to regroup for Saturday's matches. With a lackadaisical start to their first match Saturday afternoon, the Lakers lost their third match of the weekend to Rock Valley College. However that did not deter the young team. Immediately after their loss to Rock Valley, the Lakers took the floor against Highland and earned their first win of the season.
"In our early losses we were relying too highly on individuals to make things happen. When the girls finally started playing as a team, with everyone giving 100 percent towards their role on the floor, we pulled out a win. I was very impressed with our relentlessness this weekend" said Coach Hunter.
Although the Lakers record shows three losses for the weekend, the Lakers averaged a competitive 22 points per set. The Lakers look to build upon their first win of the season as they head into their first conference match up at home on Wednesday August 30th at 7:00pm against Iowa Central Community College.
