Lakers Go 1-3 at NDSCS Tournament

The Lady Lakers played in the 2017 NDSCS Tournament this weekend in Wahpeton, North Dakota.

On Friday, September 8th the girls played Jamestown JV and Bismarck State College. The Lakers had a slow start to the weekend taking two loses. The Lakers played Jamestown JV close and kept them on their toes the entire match, but came up short in the end. At the end of the day they battled against Bismarck State College and unfortunately lost in three sets.

The girls came out ready to fight on Saturday playing against Concordia College, who had a season recorded of .500. Taking an early lead in the match, winning both set one and set two. However, the Lakers struggled in the third set, ending it with a competitive loss, 22-25. In the fourth set the girls fought to stay on top and came out with the win, 25-22. RaeAhna Harmon led the team with an impressive 29 Kills and 10 digs. Brittany Butler put up 10 kills, and Libero Maggie Baker was a force in the back row with 29 digs. "We struggled on Friday. The girls had something to prove Saturday morning and I was really impressed with the amount of effort and heart they put in to beat Concordia College" said Coach Hunter

The Lakers finished the tournament against Lake Region State. However, with an injury earlier in the week the remaining eight Lakers ran out of gas and fell short in their final match of the tournament.

RaeAhna Harmon earned an impressive 67 kills on the weekend with 29 kills going towards the win over Concordia College. Maggie Baker took command of the back row this weekend with 72 digs. Setter Jazmin Benally consistently put the Laker hitters in great position to score, putting up 105 assists on the weekend.

The Lakers will be traveling to Iowa Falls on Wednesday September 13th to face Ellsworth Community College in an conference match at 7pm.
