Lakers Fall to Southwestern CC

Lakers Fall to Southwestern CC

Iowa Lakes Volleyball Team hosted their Pink Out game tonight, October 11th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Laker fans packed the gym in all pink to cheer on their Lady Lakers and also to celebrate the two Sophomores in their last home game. RaeAhna Harmon and Jazmin Benally fought hard in front of their home crowd for the very last time. The two Sophomores will be greatly missed next year as they have been a huge assist to the Iowa Lakes Volleyball Program.

Unfortunately the Lakers fell short in a four set match against Southwestern CC. The Lakers struggled to find holes in Southwestern's defense, but fought for every point they made.  During the third set, the Lakers didn't back down and found a spark to take Southwestern to a fourth set. The lakers defense was remarkable tonight. Leading the defensive battle was Maggie Baker with 32 digs, and following not far behind was RaeAhna Harmon with 29 digs, and Brooke Pennington with 21 digs. Coach Hunter Porter says, "Our defense tonight was lights out, but we struggled making smart plays on third balls and finding the court when we needed to score."

The Lakers have a big weekend traveling to Council Bluffs this Friday to play in Iowa Western CC Tournament. The Lakers face Monroe College and Colby CC on Friday, October 13th. On Saturday, October 14th they will face Independence CC and Central Central CC.
