Lakers go 0-4 at ICCC Invitational

The Lady Lakers played in the 2017 ICCC Invitational this weekend in Fort Dodge, IA. 

On Friday, October 20th the girls played North Platte CC and Carl Sandburg CC. The Lakers had a slow start to the weekend taking two loses. The Lakers had a hard time getting into rythm while playing Platte and lost in 3 sets. At the end of the day they battled hard against Carl Sandburg and took them to a five set match. The Lakers fought hard to stay in the game against Sandburg, but came up short losing the fifth set 10-15. 

The girls came out ready to fight on Saturday playing against a very competitive Labette Community College. Taking an early lead in the match, winning the set one 25-21 the Lakers were on fire. They came out in the second ready to fight, but unfortunately lost the close battle 29-31. After a disappointing second set, the Lakers struggled in the third set, ending it 10-25. In the fourth set the girls fought to stay on top and came out with the win, 25-21. It came down to the final fifth set. The Lakers started off on a sprit leading 10-7. Labette called a time out and was able to get back into the game tying with the Lakers 10-10. After many long rallies, the Lakers came up short losing the final set 13-15.  RaeAhna Harmon led the team with an impressive 25 Kills and 12 digs. Brittany Butler put up a career high of 15 kills, and Libero Maggie Baker was a force in the back row with 22 digs. 

The Lakers finished the tournament against Highland Community College - Kansas losing in three sets. 

RaeAhna Harmon earned an impressive 60 kills on the weekend. With that being said, RaeAhna Harmon reached an impressive milestone of 1000 career kills! RaeAhna is currently second in the conference with overall kills and third in the nation. 

Coach Porter says, "RaeAhna does a great job at seeing the court and putting down balls when we are in tight situations. She has worked really hard this year at mixing up her shots and being a vocal leader for us. 1000 Kills is a impressive milestone and see has put in the work to get there."  

The Lakers will be traveling to Mason City, IA on Wednesday, October 25th to face NIACC in an conference match at 7pm.
