On Monday April 16, 2018, the Iowa Lakes volleyball team welcomed Micaela Cornelius to their 2018 roster. Micaela is a 5'0 Defensive Specialist from Anna,Tx . Micaela will be a 2018 graduate from Anna High School, where she earned many athletic and academic honors. She is a dual-sport athlete participating in both varsity volleyball and powerlifting. In her junior volleyball season, she received All-District Honorable Mention. In her senior season, she improved to Fist Team All-District and was her team's captain. She was the 2018 regional powerlifting champion and a state qualifier. She is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and received Academic All-District in her last two seasons with the Lady Coyotes.
"We are very excited to have such a passionate player on our team" said Coach Hunter. "Micaela is a very dedicated player who enjoys the challenge of defense. With her drive, quick feet, and the willingness to go after the "untouchable" ball, Micaela will be a spark to our roster. We are so fortunate to have such a hardworking self-motivated player join the Laker volleyball family."
While attending Iowa Lakes, Micaela wants to continue to continue to develop her skills and pursue a degree in accounting. Micaela had this to say about her decision to become a Laker, "I really enjoyed my visits with Coach and after we talked I knew I would love for her to be my coach."
