Iowa Lakes Battles 18th Ranked DMACC

On Wednesday, October 26th, Laker volleyball hosted 18th ranked Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). Iowa Lakes started out the first set of the night strong. Both teams traded points back and forth. Eventually, the Bears of DMACC pulled away from the Lakers, taking the first set, 25-19.

Iowa Lakes came out hard against the Bears to start the second set of the night, earning points quickly. However, it did not take long for the Bears to get on the scoreboard. The Lakers stopped DMACC from earning points easily by utilizing their front row blockers and having several hustle plays. Unfortunately, due to receiving errors on the court, Iowa Lakes slowly lost momentum near the ended of the second set. DMACC pulled away, winning the second set, 25-18.

To begin the third set, the Lakers came out firing, leading 5-2. The Bears fired back, getting themselves on the board as well. Iowa Lakes did not let the Bears get in their way and continued to push the tempo of the set. Similar to the first and second sets of the night, DMACC continued to fight back against the Lakers. Both teams went point for point throughout the third set, at one point being tied 16 all and again at 21. The18th ranked Bears slowly pulled away from Iowa Lakes, taking the set, 25-22.

Coach Hunter had this to say about the team's performance, "The last few weeks we have been really focusing on blocking and blocking technique. I think our front row did an amazing job! I am finally starting to see the light bulbs turning on for the majority of our team. Where we fell short tonight was in our ball control, which normally carries our team. Overall it was a good effort. We will use this as a learning experience and hopefully take the lessons into our upcoming matches."
