Laker Volleyball Lands Two on Post Season Teams

Two athletes from the Iowa Lakes Volleyball team were selected to receive post-season honors. One athlete to represent ILCC in Division II National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-A and two in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) teams. Ten NJCAA Division II institutions make up the ICCAC with five of those institutions representing each region section of the region: XI-A and XI-B.

Freshman Libero, Faith Marroquin, from Anchorage, AK was selected onto the 2nd-Team All-Region 11A team and Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. Faith averaged 4.8 digs per set, 149 total in conference play. She also led the team this season in two categories: recording 27 aces and 501 digs for the 2018 season.

Coach Hunter Porter had this to say about Faith's impact for Iowa Lakes, "Faith is a great kid! She has a goal never to be outworked by anyone she competes with. She started the season a little hesitant to make some of the defensive changes we implement in our system, but once she picked up the concepts there were very few balls she did not touch. We have already set goals for the spring and her sophomore season! I am very excited to see what she can achieve after getting some more one on one attention and really focusing on improving her game."

Freshman Middle Blocker, Keyeria Tyeskie, from Red Oak, TX was also selected for Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. Defensively, Keyeria earned 35 solo blocks, 53 block assists, and 13 digs. In her offensive game she led the Lakers in total kills, kills per set, and overall hitting percentage. She averaged 1.98 kills per set, with a hitting percentage .269 and 243 kills for the 2018 season.

Coach Hunter Porter had this to say about Keyeria, "Keyeria is a work horse. Towards the end of the season, I could see a significant change in her attitude and her aggression. There some things that we will continue to tweak over the off-season, but I am very proud of the way she finished this fall. If she starts the 2019 season with the same mindset, I have no doubt she will meet the high expectations that I have set for her moving forward.

The Iowa Lakes Volleyball program doubled their wins from the 2017 seasons. Head Coach Hunter Porter talks about the contributions of Faith and Keyeria, "These are both really awesome kids. They are the kind of athlete coach's wish they could have more of. They both came in many times during the season to get extra touches outside of practice and it showed! With their strong work ethic and potential for leadership, they will set the tone next year for the incoming freshman and the returning sophomores."
