The Iowa Lakes Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of new Head Volleyball Coach, Mike Turnbull pending board approval.
Coach Turnbull brings more than 26 years of coaching experience to Iowa Lakes. Most recently coaching at Hibbing Community College in Hibbing, Minnesota. Turnbull has experience coaching a variety of sports to include: volleyball, men's and women's basketball and baseball. Under Turnbull's direction, his teams gained success in each sport including the following achievements in volleyball: six MCAC State Tournament Appearances, two NJCAA Region 13B Runners Up, one NJCAA Region 13B Championship, one NJCAA National Tournament Appearance, a third place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament. Additionally, he has coached five All-Americans and nine Academic All-Americans.
Athletic Director Troy Larson looks forward to Turnbull joining Iowa Lakes, "Mike is an experienced volleyball coach – he will do a excellent job running our program. He will coach our players up, and recruit the right type of athletes to benefit not only Iowa Lakes, but for our volleyball program as well. I'm looking forward to seeing his future successes".
Turnbull is excited to be coaching again. In the Spring of 2017, he retired from Hibbing Community College, but has since realized he's not quite done coaching yet.
"I am very thankful that the Iowa Lakes Administration offered me this position. I have been anxious to end my two-year retirement, and to get back into coaching again, full-time. I feel blessed to be able to do that at Iowa Lakes, and to be a part of the Estherville community. I have only been here a few days, and I can't say enough about how welcoming everyone at the college and in the community, have been," said Turnbull.
Turnbull will also serve as a Success Center Instructional Assistant.
Iowa Lakes Volleyball begins their season on August 23, as they travel to Rockford, IL to play in the McHenry Invitational.
