The Laker volleyball team will open their 2019 campaign this weekend at the McHenry County College Tourney in Rockford, IL.
The Lakers will play Oakton CC & Bryant & Stratton CC on Friday. On Saturday they will play Lincoln Land CC and host McHenry County College.
Coach Turnbull is excited to get the season rolling. "Due to my late hire we have only been in practice for 11 days, but we have been progressing well." He added, 'We played surprisingly well at our scrimmage at NIACC last Thursday, but now it gets real. It will be fun to see how we respond to some high level competition."
The Lakers will be led by four returning Sophomores: Libero Faith Maroquin [Anchorage, AK], OH/MH Ariel Bozonie [Storm Lake, IA], OH/RS Evonne Tomlin [Midlothian, TX] and DS/S Mary Kelly [San Antonio, TX].
All the freshmen will be expected to contribute right away. This year's freshmen include: OH Lindsey Jensen and OH/MH Sydney Swanson from Estherville, IA. Setter Jada Barker and OH/RS Haileigh Smith from West Monona High School. Rounding out the Freshmen group will be Quianna Coria-Lopez from Denver, CO.
Coach Turnbull added, "We are all excited to get the season rolling and see where we are. Either way, we know we have to keep getting better everyday as we build to begin conference play in a couple of weeks."
