The Lakers traveled to Mason City Friday and Saturday to play at the Trojan Volleyball Tournament hosted by North Iowa Area Community College. The Lakers [5-21] came away with one win and three losses over the weekend.
On Friday the Lakers lost to Dakota College of Bottineau North Dakota in 4 sets.16-25, 25-23, 11-25, and 22-25. They followed that up with a loss to Carl Sandburg CC out of Illinois 14-25, 6-25 and 11-25.
The Lakers bounced back on Saturday after losing to Grand View University JV 23-25, 21-25 and 13-25, the Lakers rebounded with a hard fought and well deserved 3-2 win over Minnesota West CTC; 25-20, 13-25, 18-25, 25-21 and 15-10.
Coach Turnbull commented, "We finally stood up and showed some grit and hung in and fought through a whole match and got the win. We also displayed resiliency by spending most of the weekend playing with only seven players. Jada Barker, our setter was already a scratch going in and Ariel Bozonie sat out part of Friday night and both matches Saturday. Mary Kelly played much better as she became more comfortable setting for us. Haileigh Smith and Evonne Tomlin ended up playing all around and did a great job. Sydney Swanson moved from the outside to the middle and proved to be a force offensively and defensively. If we have to play a little short right now, we need everyone available to continue to contribute each match from here on out, as we started displaying this weekend."

The Lakers return to action, Wednesday, October 9, at Hawkeye CC 7:00pm Waterloo, IA. The Lakers next home match is October 16th vs Kirkwood Community College at 7:00pm.
