
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 13-ranked Johnson County men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2024 season, falling 4-2 at home to No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Iowa Lakes on Friday night at the JCCC Soccer Complex.
The Cavaliers took the early lead when sophomore midfielder Dominic Zuniga scored an unassisted goal at the 7:52 mark.
Iowa Lakes responded with four unanswered goals by four different Lakers over the next 18 minutes and held a 4-1 advantage until the 67th minute, when Zuniga netted his second unassisted goal to pull JCCC to within two.
Freshman goalkeeper Ben Hertel fell to 1-1-0, allowing four goals off eight shots.
The Cavaliers return to the pitch on Monday night, September 2, to host State Fair Community College. The Roadrunners are 0-3-0 to start their season. They have been outscored 11-to-3 over those three losses. The match is schedule to begin at 7 p.m.
