#9 Eagles Roll Through Lakers and #7 Hawks

Cedar Rapids, Burlington, IA- The 9th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles had big games against the Iowa Lakes Lakers and the 7th-ranked Southeastern Blackhawks this week. The Eagles were looking to bounce back after a tough weekend against Iowa Western and that's exactly what they did.

In the first game of the week against the Lakers, Kirkwood would pitch their way to a 7-0 victory, shutting out the Lakers on the mound with Caden Wilson and Caden Stoffer. Wilson pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs, and striking out 4. In the two innings Stoffer came in for, he allowed 3 hits, no runs, and struck out 2. Cal Sullivan had 2 RBIs in his 4 at-bats and the Eagles showed their aptitude in the base running department with Ethan Bowers, Miles Risley, and Alex Ritzer all stealing bases in the game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Kirkwood would keep the bats hot and score 11 runs in 7 innings. They would stifle the Lakers from the mound again and only allow 1 run from Iowa Lakes. Both Clayton Campidilli and Jaxon Schumacher would go yard for the Eagles, each hitting home runs. Owen Ross and Campidilli would both have 2 RBIs in the game, with Seth Winkler, Schumacher, Miles Risley, and Brayden Hellum each adding one of their own. Drew Proskovec would start on the mound for Kirkwood, pitching 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, giving up 1 run, and striking out 7.

The match-up against the #7 Southeastern Blackhawks was a pivotal ICCAC match-up for the Eagles. The first three innings were a back-and-forth affair with no team gaining any ground. Kirkwood would strike first in the top of the 4th inning, scoring two runs. Cal Sullivan would continue his consistency in the RBI department, providing 4 in the game. Both Sullivan and Jaxon Schumacher would hit home runs for the Eagles. Miles Risley would add in a double of his own and Ethan Bowers would hit a triple. The Eagles would show their resiliency at the end of the game. They would give up 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to allow Southeastern to tie up the game, but, they would dig themselves out just as quickly as they got in, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 9th to secure the 8-5 win.

Next up for the Eagles is a big three-game stint this weekend against #6 Iowa Central at home.
