WARRIORS SWEEP LAKERS AT PAT DAUGHERTY FIELD

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team swept a pair of games at Pat Daugherty Field on Monday afternoon, dropping Iowa Lakes Community College 9-3 in the opener before closing out the night with a 10-0 run-rule shortened affair against the Lakers.  The Warriors improve to 12-3 overall on the year.

The Warriors received a pair of quality starts on the mound from two sophomore hurlers while the offense erupted late in game one before carrying its onslaught into the nightcap to sweep the visiting Lakers. Indian Hills improves to 13-0 all-time against Iowa Lakes with the two wins.

Sophomore Jordan Scholl (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South) put together another impressive outing on the mound to open the day, allowing just one hit through the first four frames as game one proved to be a pitcher's duel on both fronts. The Lakers eventually hit paydirt in the top of the fifth inning, tacking on two runs for the initial run.

The Warriors bounced back in the bottom half of the frame, plating five runs to pull away from the Lakers. A two-run double from sophomore Miguel Salazar (Sentaines, Venezuela/San Luis) knotted the game at two before Raul Torres (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) gave Indian Hills the lead with a sacrifice fly. Indian Hills took advantage of a pair of miscues in the fifth to add on two more runs before adding four more in the sixth to put the game out of reach. AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling) capped the scoring for the Warriors with a two-out run-scoring single in the sixth.

Sophomore JJ Dutton (Toronto, Ontario/Forest Hill) put together a three-hit performance for the Warriors while Zachari Pace (Colorado Springs, CO/Vista Ridge) went 2-4 with two runs scored.

Scholl struck out five batters in 4.2 innings of work while Carlos Valenzuela (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Global Life Vision) tossed 2.1 innings of relief to pick up the win, scattering just three hits along the way.

Indian Hills turned to another second-year arm to start game in two in Andrei Gordeev (Balashika, Russia/Global Vision Christian). Making his fourth start of the year, Gordeev shut down the Lakers as the Warrior offense continued to roll in the afternoon finale. The Warriors plated a run in the first and two more in the second as Endi Jaquez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Radio Santa Maria) and Dylan Sayles (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) cracked run-scoring singles to left.

The Warriors poured it on in the third as Fano Cruz (Viera, FL/Viera) delivered a two-run home run to deep right centerfield as part of a four-run frame. Pace's stellar day at the plate continued with a two-run home run to kickstart a three-run fourth inning that led to a 10-0 lead for the Warriors.

Gordeev kept the Lakers scoreless through four innings of work before Lou Levy (Highlands, Rach, CO/Mountain Vista) tossed a scoreless fifth to preserve the shutout.

Pace went 2-3 at the plate with two runs and the two RBI to finish the afternoon with four hits. The freshman has now hit safely in five consecutive contests, batting .438 with three extra base hits during the stretch.

Cruz added two knocks and three RBI in the game two victory while Salazar tacked on a pair of knocks in the win.

The Warriors' homestand at Pat Daugherty Field continues with an afternoon contest at Southwest Community College Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
