Southwestern Spartans Baseball Split Series with Iowa Lakes, March 10, 2024

Creston, IA – The Southwestern Spartans Baseball team concluded a thrilling two-game series against Iowa Lakes Community College with a split decision. The Spartans now stand at 6-14 on the season, showcasing a promising 4-4 record since the calendar turned to March.

In the first game of the series on March 10th, the Spartans fought hard but ultimately fell short, losing 2-4. Brysen Vernon sparked the offense with a powerful home run, while Braydan Resch added another run with a solid hit. Despite the loss, the Spartans displayed resilience and determination on the field.

However, in the second game, the Spartans came back with a vengeance, securing a 3-1 victory. Led by pitcher Barrett Lodge's stellar performance, backed by an impressive defensive effort, the Spartans limited Iowa Lakes to just one run. Eli Eldred, Drew Miller, and Chris Lugo contributed crucial RBIs to secure the win for the Spartans. Lodge's performatnce ultimately netted him ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors.

The Spartans will face Iowa Lakes in a three game series, in Creston, on April 13th and 14th to ultimately decide the series victor.

Next up for the Spartans is the first opportunity to defend their home turf against the Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights in a best-of-four series this weekend.
