RedTail Softball Loses Last Two Home Games

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team hosted their final games of the season against Iowa Lakes Community College on Sunday, April 21st. The RedTails dropped both games losing game one 15-2 and game two 7-4.

 

Game 1: 2 (HCC), 15 (ILCC)

Iowa Lakes got out to an early start scoring one run in the top of the first. They tacked on five more runs in the top of the second to go up 6-0.
The RedTails got on the board in the bottom of the second. Dharma Woodruff started the inning off with a double and advanced to third from a ball in play from Chardonnay Hubert. Courtney Hemsley singled to score Woodruff.

The Lakers added two more runs in the fourth on a RedTail error and a homerun. 

Down 8-1, the RedTails started some momentum to score another run in the fourth. Hubert started with a double to right field and Hemsley got her second hit of the day to score Hubert. 

A big sixth inning gave the Lakers a 15-2 advantage, and the RedTails couldn't score any more to end the game.

Hemsley led at the plate going 2-3 with two runs batted in. Lizzy Hamand, Woodruff, Hubert, and Gaudet each had a hit. Schafer took the loss on the mound, giving up 15 hits, nine earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts.

 

Game 2: 4 (HCC), 7 (ILCC)

Hawkeye jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Kisha Reed started the inning off with a single and quickly stole second. Caydance Sharp forced a Laker error to score Reed and advanced to second. Hubert drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Allison Beenken then hit a double to score both to give the RedTails a 3-0 lead.

The game was quiet until the fifth inning when Iowa Lakes scored seven runs to put them up 7-4. 

The RedTails had shown some fight in the bottom of the seventh when Hubert reached first off a single. Hemsley then advanced Hubert to second by forcing a fielder's choice. Schafer singled to score Hubert. Hawkeye couldn't string any more hits together and lost the game 7-4. 

Sidney Schafer led at the plate, going 2-2 with one run batted in. Reed was 2-4 with one run scored. Hemsley took the loss on the mound going five innings, giving up nine hits, three earned runs, three walks, and six strikeouts. Schafer finished the last two innings with no hits and no runs. 

 

Hawkeye moves to 7-31 on the year and 3-19 in conference play. The RedTails travel to North Iowa Area Community College on Wednesday, April 24th for a doubleheader. The game times are set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
