#10 Eagles Take Care of Lakers at Home

Cedar Rapids, IA- The tenth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles took on the Iowa Lakes Lakers at home on Thursday afternoon. The first game was a tight battle throughout, with the Lakers striking first, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Kirkwood would respond though and put up 2 runs to start in the bottom of the second inning. They then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to center field by Peyton Johnson on a full count. Kirkwood made the score 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Delia Schwartz hit a solo home run to right field, and Johnson doubled, scoring one run. Peyton Johnson drove in five runners in the game, going 3-3 on the day. Going into the bottom of the 7th inning, Kirkwood trailed 8-7. Sailor Hall would put the game in her hands though and hit a walk-off double to score two runs and win the game 9-7. 

The second game of the day would prove to be a one-sided affair. The Eagles opened up the game in the bottom of the first inning when Brenna Ross homered to right field, scoring three runs. Lexi Hines also homered to center field in the first inning, scoring two runs. The third inning would prove to be an offensive onslaught for the Eagles. Kirkwood scored 16 runs on 8 hits in the inning. Sophia Kreutner, Kiya Johnson, and Lexi Hines combined for 6 of the team's 12 hits in the game. They scored 8 runs and drove in 8. Jenna Sprague started in the circle for Kirkwood, allowing two hits and one run over three innings, striking out two hitters and walking three. Natalie Vitek came in and pitched two innings allowing 0 runs, one hit, and striking out four while walking three. 

Kirkwood will travel this weekend to take on the #9 DMACC Bears and Northeast Hawks in some pivotal ICACC action.
