Lakers earn State Championship for third-consecutive year

The Iowa Lakes Dance Team traveled to Des Moines for the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Championship on December 1st and 2nd where they tied for Community College Hip Hop Champions.  The Lakers tied for this award with Iowa Western Community College.  This is the third consecutive year the Lakers have earned a state title.  The contest was held at Wells Fargo Arena where over 250 high school teams competed and 27 college teams.

Laker Dance Team Alumni, Jordan Phillips, had this to say, "It was amazing to look at the team I used to be on and watch them from the beginning of their season to the final performance.  I am so proud of the girls and all the hard work they put in to continue our championship run for the third year in a row!"  Phillips was a familiar face at Laker practice this year, coming to watch their summer camp as well as help critique prior to state competition.

Team members are Kiersten Aldous, Hannah Grimm, Feliciti Haack, Erin Poeppe, Ashlyn Reimers and Jaden Rouse.

Current team member Erin Poeppe, "The work put into practice is hard but worth it.  The feeling of winning is amazing because you then know your hard work was all worth it.  State is an amazing experience."

The Laker Dance Team is currently recruiting athletes for next year's team.  Anyone wishing to learn more about the Laker Dance Team may contact Danie Juhl at 712-362-8352 or djuhl@iowalakes.edu
