Estherville, Iowa – Wednesday, January 16, 2019

The 16th ranked Lakers will look to remain undefeated in conference play against Southwestern.  The men will tip off at 7:30 PM.  The Lakers are currently 12-4 overall. 

This past Saturday, the Lakers defeated DMACC, 85-80, to move to 3-0 in the conference.  Solomon Clayton led all Lakers with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Kevin Jennings contributed 20 points.  Malcolm Clayton and Jacob Rau finished with 16 points and 10 points respectively.

The Lakers are shooting at an efficient rate this year from the field.  At 51.7%, the Lakers are 4th in the nation in field goal percentage.  Against DMACC Solomon Clayton went 8-11 (73%) from the field.  Jacob Rau shot 67%, Kevin Jennings shot 58% and Malcolm Clayton shot 50% from the field. 

Southwestern is ranked 18th in the country in three point shot attempts and 20th in three point shots made.  Lakers Head Coach, Troy Larson, stated that it is important that SWCC does not have any open looks from the three-point line. 

The Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team looks to take on Southwestern Community College at home, January 16th at 5:30pm.  The Spartans have an overall record of 6-10 coming into the match up Wednesday. When asked about the upcoming contest, Coach Ashley Martin says that she is "really excited to see how we bounce back from a tough loss.  We had a good challenge on Saturday and it will be good to get back on our home floor."

The Lakers are coming off of their first conference lost to Des Moines Area Community College.  They have an overall record of 14-3 and a conference record of 2-1. Shareece Smith lead the way against the Bears with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.  Bethany Rehse followed with a double double on the night, 11 points and 15 rebounds. Also hitting double digits that night for the Lakers were Samantha Hagedorn (11pts) and Breanna Wendland (13pts).
