16th Ranked Lakers take on 4th Ranked Kirkwood

Estherville, Iowa – Wednesday, January 23, 2019

The 16th ranked Lakers will look to extend their home record to 6-1 against the 4th ranked Eagles from Kirkwood.  The Eagles (5-0) are currently first in the ICCAC standings and the Lakers are second with a 4-1 conference record.

This matchup will include three players that are top 10 for scoring in the ICCAC.  Douglas Wilson (Kirkwood) is averaging 22.8 points per game in conference play.  Kevin Jennings and Solomon Clayton, for the Lakers, are 5th and 6th in scoring respectively.  Kevin Jennings is averaging 19 points per game in conference games.  Solomon Clayton is scoring 18.8 points per game against conference opponents.

In the last three conference games, Kevin Jennings is averaging 20.7 points per game.  Jennings scored 20 points against DMACC, 25 points against Southwestern, and 17 points against Iowa Central.

Solomon Clayton is averaging 22 points per game in his last four games.  Solomon finished with 22 points against Iowa Western and DMACC.  Against Southwestern, he finished the night with 16 points.  Solomon Clayton scored 28 points against Iowa Central this past Saturday. 

Douglas Wilson scored 23 points against DMACC, 22 points against Southwestern, and 25 points against NIACC.  Through the past three conference games, Wilson is averaging 23 points per game. 

Kirkwood is ranked first in the nation in field goal percentage with 52.7%.  In addition, the Eagles are shooting 40.8% from the three-point line, which is good for second in the nation in NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball. 

When asked Lakers Head Coach Troy Larson his thoughts on the matchup tomorrow, he stated, "It will be a high level college basketball game and our guys are excited. We need a good turnout from our fans." 

The Men's game will tip off at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, January 23rd.

The Women's Laker Basketball team looks to continue their conference season at home against Kirkwood Community College this Wednesday, January 23.  Tip off will be at 5:30pm.  The Eagles are ranked 10th in the nation with a conference record of 6-0 and an overall record of 16-5.  Head Coach Ashley Martin says, "It's a great opportunity for our team to compete against #10 Kirkwood. I'm excited to see how our kids respond."  

The Lakers are fresh off a respectable 64-49 win against Iowa Central Community College, moving them to 4-1 in conference and 16-3 overall.  Freshman Shareece Smith led the way with 27 points and 7 boards.  Samantha Hagedorn followed with 15 points in the win.
