Lakers Release Schedule, Open at home November 4th vs. Dordt JV

Estherville, IA- The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team has released its schedule for the 2019-20 season. The Lakers traditionally play one of the toughest schedules in the country and will feature six games against NJCAA Division 1 opponents this season.

The first Division 1 opponent they will see is Cowley Community College on November 1st, in part of the two-day Cowley classic in Arkansas City, Kansas. The Lakers will play their second Division 1 opponent Coffeyville Community College of Coffeyville, Kansas the following night November 2nd. Coffeyville is predominately one of the top programs in the country at the NJCAA Division 1 level. They are currently ranked 17th in the country.

The Lakers will then travel to Norfolk, Nebraska the weekend of November 8th and 9th to take part in the two-day Hawk Classic. In their first game of the event they will take on NJCAA Division 1 Northeast Community College. In their second game of the Hawk Classic they will take on Central Community College of Columbus, Nebraska.

The travel doesn't stop there for Iowa Lakes. The Lakers then travel to Marshalltown, IA where they will play two games as part of the Emerson Classis November 15th and 16th. Their first opponent will be NJCAA Division 1 Independence Community College of Independence, Missouri. Their second opponent of the weekend be John Wood Community College of Quincy, Illinois.

Iowa Lakes final Division 1 opponent for the year will be Marshalltown Community College. The Lakers will play them twice. The first game will be Wednesday December 11th in Marshalltown. Marshalltown will then travel to Estherville to play the Lakers on Saturday, February 15th.

The Lakers will open conference play before the new year as they play their first of 14 ICCAC games on December 4th at home against Iowa Central. 3 out of the last 4 National Champions have come from the ICCAC.

"Excited about the upcoming season – have some good sophomore leadership and the guys have been working hard.  Freshman have given us good energy.  We are looking forward to this weekend.  As always, our schedule is very competitive.  With the amount of Division 1 Junior colleges and the rest of our non-conference schedule we will be ready for the ICCAC.  As always the ICCAC will be very competitive – the league will have a good chance of having 3 to 4 teams in the top ten of the country and competing for a national championship again."

The first home game of the 2019-20 Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball season will be November 4th vs. Dordt College's JV in Laker Gymnasium. Tip for that game will be at 7:30 pm.

The Lakers are coached by Troy Larson who is entering his 13th season. The Lakers finished last year 22 - 10 overall and 10 - 4 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play, good enough for 3rd place. The Lakers were ousted in the conference semifinals. The Lakers had four ICCAC all-conference selections, led by Kevin Jennings and Solomon Clayton being named to the first team.
