Lakers push winning streak to 5

Marshalltown, IA- The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team pushed their winning streak to 5 games after winning 2 games this weekend at the Emerson Classic improving their record to 5-2 on the season.

In their first game of the weekend, they would take on 5-0 NJCAA Division 1 Independence Community College. The Lakers would win the contest 93-87 behind 26 points from Sophomore guard Boston Grimes. Grimes knocked down 7 three-point shots in the contest. Also scoring in double figures for the Lakers was Justin Brookens with 19 points, Keshawn Pegues with 18 points, and Alan Kikwaki with 13 points.

Lakers Head Coach Troy Larson has this to say about the game, "It was a good win against a quality opponent for our guys, I am proud of our guys for how hard we competed defensively tonight!

The Lakers would then take on John Wood Community College of Quincy, Illinois in their second game of the classic. The Lakers trailed by 14 points with 8 minutes left but rallied behind Justin Brookens 31 points to come from behind for the win. Malcolm Clayton would add 22 points, and Keshawn Pegues would add 16.

Coach Larson had this to say about the contest," It was a gutsy performance by our guys to be down 14 late in the game and come back and win it."

The Lakers will return to action Saturday, November 23rd when they take on Minnesota West. Tip for that game is set for 3 pm in Estherville at Laker Gymnasium.
