Brookens named ICCAC player of the week

Estherville, IA- For the third week in a row an Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball player has been named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference player of the week. It is also the second time this season that sophomore point guard Justin Brookens has received the honor. Brookens was also named the player of the week for November 11-17. Last week for the second time this season Keshawn Pegues was the recipient. The week before that Sophomore forward Alan Kikwaki was named ICCAC player of the week. 

Brookens led the Lakers to 3 victories last week. The first game of the week saw Brookens and the Lakers knock off NJCAA 3rd ranked DMACC 69-59. In the contest, Brookens would go for 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. In their second game of the week, the Lakers would take on Ellsworth. In that contest, Brookens would go for 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting. Their final game of the week would find them taking on Dakota Wesleyan's JV. For the game, Brookens would go 7 of 10 from the floor including 6 of 9 from 3. He would also dish out 9 assists in the contest. For the season Brookens is averaging 20.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per contest. He is shooting 48% from the floor and 48.1% from 3. Brookens leads the ICCAC in 3 point field goal percentage. 

Coach Larson had this to say about Brookens, "Justin is very deserving of this award he is in the gym all the time getting up shots."

The NJCAA 8th ranked Iowa Lakes next contest will be January 29th at Little Priest Tribal College. The tip will be at 7:30 pm in Winnebago, Nebraska at Winnebago High School. Their next home contest will be February 5th when they take on NJCAA 12th ranked NIACC.
