Lakers to take on NIACC

Estherville, IA – The NJCAA 8th ranked Iowa Lakes Lakers Men's Basketball team is set to take on the NJCAA 17th ranked NIACC Trojans in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Matchup on Wednesday, February 5th.

The Lakers who have won 10 in a row, most recently played Iowa Central in Ft. Dodge winning the contest 75-72. The Lakers who found themselves in early foul trouble and down by as much as 15 in the second half battled their way back behind a strong performance from sophomore guard Boston Grimes. Grimes would go 5 of 10 from the floor and would knock down 2 three-point baskets late to seal the game for the Lakers.

The Trojans enter the contest having lost their last 2. NIACC's last action came Saturday against ICCAC opponent DMACC. DMACC who is ranked 7th in the country would win the game 79-69.

The Matchup will be the second time the two have met this season. Iowa Lakes won the last matchup 108-96 in Mason City.

Iowa Lakes is currently ranked 14th in the country in scoring getting 92.2 points per game, they are currently 10th in the country field goal percentage at 49.6% from the floor and are ranked 1st nationally in 3-point percentage at 41.9%.

The Lakers are paced by Justin Brookens. Brookens is getting 21.3 points, dishing out 4.5 assists, and grabbing 5.0 rebounds per game in ICCAC play. Lakers scoring in double figures include Keshawn Pegues. Pegues is getting 13.4 points per contest while grabbing 10.8 rebounds, and Malcolm Clayton is scoring 11.1 points, and grabbing 4.7 rebounds.

The game will be played in Laker Gymnasium and will tip at 7:30 pm.
