Four Lakers Earn All-Region

Four players from the 2019 – 2020 Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team were honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) as being all region performers.  The NJCCA 10th ranked Lakers finished the year at 26 – 6 overall, and 11 – 4 in ICCAC play to earn a third-place finish.

Justin Brookens

SO – Milwaukee, WI

1st Team All-Region XI

Sophomore guard, Justin Brookens was voted onto the All-Region XI 1st team.  Justin led the team in scoring with 20.1 points per game, he grabbed 4 rebounds per game, and dished out 4.9 assists per game. Brookens shot 48.8% from the field and 51.7 % from 3-point arc, ranking 3rd in the nation. Justin scored in double figures in 30 of 32 games.  Justin was named ICCAC player of the week three times. Brookens was also named ICCAC Co Player of the Year.

Coach Troy Larson had these comments to say about Justin,  "Justin is a great scorer and has the ability to really shoot it and score quickly."  Anxious to see what level he can to next season."

Keshawn Pegues

FR – Davenport, IA

1st Team All-Region XI

Freshman forward, Keshawn Pegues, was voted onto the All-Region XI 1st team.  Pegues led the team in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game, while scoring 12.5 points per contest, shooting 50.8% from the field.  Keshawn scored in double figures in 23 of 32 games this season and accumulated 10 double doubles on the year.  Keshawn was named ICCAC player of the week two times on the season.

Coach Larson had this say about Keshawn, "Keshawn really rebounds the ball well. He works very hard in the weight room which allowed his body to do the little things that allow teams to be successful. Looking forward to see his development on the floor."

Malcolm Clayton

SO – Ft. Dodge, IA

2nd Team All-Region XI

Sophomore guard, Malcolm Clayton was voted onto the All-Region XI 2nd team.  Malcolm was the 3rd leading scorer on the team at 11.8 points per game, he grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game, and dished out 2.7 assists per game. Clayton shot 48.4% from the field and 41.6 % from 3-point arc. Malcolm scored in double figures in 19 of 32 games. 

Coach Larson had this to say about Malcolm, "Malcolm was our leader this season, he showed great improvement from last year to this year."

Boston Grimes

So – Johnston, IA

Honorable Mention All-Region XI

Boston averaged 10.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 47.9% from the field and 42% from the 3. He scored his career high 26 vs. Independence on November 15th. Boston scored in double figures in 13 of 32 games.

"Boston was our best defender. He is very competitive and brought great energy every night," said Coach Larson.

Iowa Lakes is coached by Troy Larson who just finished his 13th year at the college.  He has an overall record of 279 wins and 133 loses for a winning percentage of 67.2%.  Coach Larson lead the Lakers to the national tournament in 2013 as well as regional championship game appearances in 2013, 2014, and 2016.  Additionally, the Lakers have won the ICCAC regular season championship in 2013 and 2016.
