Lakers win streak pushed to 6

Estherville, IA- The Iowa Lakes men's basketball team swept the Iowa-Nebraska challenge yesterday after going 2-0 this weekend in Mason City. The wins pushed the Laker win streak to 6 games and they are now 6-2.

In their first contest of the weekend the Lakers would take on Southeast Nebraska. The Lakers would win that contest 96-84.

The Lakers were paced by Ashton Hermann with 21 points. Joining Hermann in double figures was Jermaine Freeman with 18, Jhordan Ryan added 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Jade West added 15 points.

Southeast was led by Brandon Schoop with 22 points.

Laker Head Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. I thought our guys did a great job of figuring out how to win tonight. We got off to a good start and jumped out to a big lead, Southeast did a good job of fighting back and getting after us on the defensive end. We handled that adversity in the first half and again in the second half. I would have liked to have seen us handle the pressure and not turn the ball over as much, but we are young and are still learning how to win."

In their second game of the weekend the Lakers would take on Central Nebraska. The Lakers would win that contest 76-75 on a 3-point shot from about 40 feet away from the basket by freshmen Jermaine Freeman.

Jhordan Ryan would lead the way for the Lakers with his 5th double-double of the season. Ryan would score 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Freeman would add 21 points, as the only other Laker in double figures.

Central was led by Frank Keller with 17 points.

Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. "We had another outstanding night on the glass grabbing 51 rebounds. It was our second consecutive night of grabbing 50 rebounds. We have to be more efficient on the offensive end, so we don't have to rely on a 40-footer to win the game at the buzzer. Give Central credit though they played hard and got after us on the defensive end."

The Lakers next contest will be on Monday, November 24th when they host Northwestern's JV team at 7:30 pm.
