The post-season for NJCAA Division II men's basketball starts Saturday, March 1, with the Lakers traveling to #4 seed Iowa Central.
The Lakers are currently 19-11 on the season and 9-9 in the ICCAC. The leading scorer for the Lakers is Ashton Hermann, who is averaging 14.8 PPG and 4.7 RPG. The Lakers have a balanced scoring attack with 3 averaging double figures. Jhordan Ryan is averaging 14.0 PPG and 11.4 RPG, and Jermaine Freeman is averaging 13.9 PPG. Ryan is leading the conference in rebounds per game, with 11.4 and 4th in FG% with 57.7%.
"Really proud of the development of our guys throughout the season. We have competed every time we have taken the floor this year. We have gotten tremendously better as the season has progressed. I am looking forward to the regional tournament and competing for a regional championship."
Iowa Lakes Community College will travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa to play the first round of the DII ICCAC Region XI Tournament. As the number 5 seed, the Lakers will play at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 1st, taking on the Tritons from Iowa Central. Iowa Lakes won both meetings with Iowa Central 81-79 and 75-71.
Head Coach Jason McKinney commented, "The ICCAC is such a strong basketball league. There are 4/5 teams from our league that have been ranked nationally at some point during the season. There are going to be some high-level college basketball games this weekend."
