Another Top-3 Finish

Another Top-3 Finish

Iowa Lakes men's varsity team traveled to Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa. The Mustang Invitational was a 2-day event hosted by Morningside University. The tournament served as a preview for the 2025 North Central District Tournament as the Lakers will be competing at the same course in efforts to make another national tournament appearance. The competitive field was a combination of JUCO and NAIA programs.

Lakers posted rounds of 304 (+16) each day for a total of 608 (+32). They finished T-3 as a team. Led by Jayden Manthei and Kale Ladwig who both posted totals of +7 finishing T-12 individually. Josh Matheason was close behind with a +10 total, followed by Raul Jerez Martin +12 and Christian Prambs +15.

"It was great to see majority of our guys striking the ball as well as they did. I was a little disappointed with how we finished day 1 considering how well we hit the ball. Each guy seemed to have a couple of poor decisions that costed each of them 2-5 strokes. We pointed those issues out after round 1," said Coach Myers. "They guys made a lot of good corrections throughout the round on day 2 and it showed. Holes 7-18 we were +4 as a team (excluding the round we weren't going to count that day). At the time our guys were finishing up with hole 1, we had a very good look at second place and potential to make a run at first. Unforutnately, everyone had a bit of a tough spot from holes 2-6 to finish our rounds. Overall I'm very pleased with how our team did. We had different players lead our team and step up. I had to remind our guys that there are 3-4 very solid programs in our region who weren't competing. If this was our regional tournament in the spring, those costly mental errors day 1 could have been the difference of whether or not we achieve the ultimate goal."

Lakers will have a fun Quad-Cup event on 10/11/24 in Boone, Iowa. 10/14-15 they will travel to the Grandview Invitational to wrap up the fall season.
