Laker men's 2024-2025 season came to an end at the North Central District Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The three-day, 54-hole event took place at Whispering Creek Golf Club. Kirkwood took home 1st place with a +4 total. Northeast was close behind, posting a final score of +7, earning them 2nd place. Southeast rounded out the national qualifying teams with +25, 3rd place finish. Iowa Lakes finished T-7, ending their season with +56 total.
Lakers were led by freshmen Josh Matheason and Jayden Manthei. Josh posted rounds of 73,71,78 (+6), landing him a T-11 finish and second team all-region honors. Jayden fired rounds of 77,72,84 for a T-30 finish. Rounding out the efforts for the Lakers were Raul Jerez Martin (+19), Chris Prambs (+24), and Drew Parsons (+27).
"We lacked consistency all year. We had 7 fellas place top 10 individually throughout the year, but couldn't get more than one or two playing well any given tournament. I was extremely proud of how our freshmen played all year, especially Josh and Jayden at Districts. Josh never had a bad round. Missing nationals by one has everything to do with how much talent is in our region. He had an outstanding tournament! Jayden played very well in his first two rounds and struggled to find a groove on the third day. After 6-7 holes on the last day, we knew he would have to start pressing for birdies and play aggressively in order to give himself a chance. He came in with the mindset that he'd rather go down swinging rather than play conservatively, miss the cut, and look back with regret," said Coach Myers. "Although we fell short of our final goal, I am so proud of the growth on and off the course of this team. All sophomores wanting to play at the next level received scholarship offers. I'm excited for the future of our sophomores moving on! I can't wait to get the incoming freshmen in and add them to our talented upcoming sophomore class!"
