Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer Defeats NIACC in Region XI Quarterfinals

A cold Wednesday night in Spencer, Iowa was the site of the NJCAA Region XI Men's Soccer Quarterfinal game between the Lakers of Iowa Lakes Community College and the Trojans of NIACC. The game, which began with a celebration of Iowa Lakes' nine graduating sophomores, proved to be a riveting match as both teams competed at an intensive level. The opening goal came early, courtesy of Lakers' sophomore, Gustavo Nascimento, who capatilized on a clever cross by his sophomore counterpart, Freddy Fragozo. The Trojans quickly rallied back, equalizing two minutes later. However, the Lakers had the final say as two coverated penalties by Yago Ramos as well as a sweet finish by Rian Marques saw off the Trojans comeback. The match came to a close as the Lakers took a four to three goal win in their opening match of the NJCAA Region XI Men's Soccer Tournament. The Lakers now have a semifinal meeting with the Tigers of Marshalltown Community College this Saturday, 2:00 P.M., at James W. Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
