Lakers move to 3-1-1 over Labor Day Weekend, Likulia bags two in Overtime thriller.

 

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA- The Lakers traveled to Council Bluffs this past weekend as they squared off against two tough opponents. Snow College out of Utah and Northeastern Junior College out of Colorado.  

The Lakers first game took place on a very humid Saturday afternoon against Snow. Sophomore midfielder Abel Gebrekiros got the Lakers scoring started in the 22nd minute. However the lead did not last long. Two minutes later a Laker mistake in the back lead to a Snow goal.  Both teams would go into halftime tied up 1-1.

The Second half would be a slugfest, the Lakers and Badgers would exchange chances throughout the second half. Ultimately the Badgers would end up taking the win in the last 5 seconds of regulation. Giving the Lakers their first loss on the season. Final score Snow 2 Lakers 1.

 

The following day your Lakers took on Northeastern Junior College. The Lakers again would start the scoring off at the end of the first half, with a goal from Nicolas Likulia. Likulia would get his head on the end of a Connor Goldsworthy cross. 1-0 Lakers heading into halftime.

The beginning of the second half was a rough start for the Lakers, as Northeastern equalized just two minutes into the half. Goalkeeper Joshua Wilson would be called upon to keep Lakers tied in the dying minutes of the second half, after coming up with three huge saves.

 After 90 minutes of play and the score still 1-1, overtime would be required. However not much extra time would be needed as the Lakers would only need three minutes into the first overtime to take home the win. Connor Goldsworthy played a long through ball from his own half for Nicolas Likulia to run onto. Likulia would be taken down inside Northeaster n's box, awarding the Lakers with a penalty. Likulia would be the man to step up and win the game for the Lakers as he confidently slotted the ball into the back of Northeaster n's net.  2-1 in single OT. Lakers move to 3-1-1 on the season and will travel to NIACC on Wednesday.
