LAKERS DEFEAT SOUTHEASTERN 1-0 IN DOUBLE OT, ADVANCE TO CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS

(SPENCER, IOWA)- The #3 seed Iowa Lakes Lakers Hosted #6 seed Southeastern Blackhawks in Spencer on Sunday. The Lakers defeated the Blackhawks 1-0 in double overtime.

 

The Lakers started the game very strong but could not find a goal. Sophomore Luan Cesar hit a shot from outside the box, which banged off the inside of the post and out. Both teams would go into halftime scoreless. The second half was more of the same. Iowa Lakes created many chances but could not find a goal.  Sophomore keeper Josh Wilson came up big for the Lakers in net.

 

After 90 minutes of play and no goals scored, overtime was needed. It wasn't until the 104th minute when the Lakers where awarded a penalty kick inside the Blackhawks box. Sophomore Cameron Weston would step up and punch the Lakers ticket into the Conference Semi-Finals. This was Cameron Weston's 12th goal of the season.

 

The Lakers will Travel to Ottumwa, Iowa on Wednesday, October 30th as they take on #2 seed Indian Hills CC. The Lakers tied 1-1 with Indian Hills during the regular season.  Kickoff will be 2pm.
