MAGHOUZ LIFTS LAKERS PAST MARSHALLTOWN WITH HAT TRICK, LAKERS WIN 5-1

MARSHALLTOWN- The #9 ILCC Men's Soccer team traveled to Marshalltown, Iowa to take on the Marshalltown CC Tigers in an ICCAC showdown. The Lakers are coming off an impressive two game winning streak against Iowa Central and Indian Hills and the Tigers off a draw with #1 Iowa Western. It was Marshalltown's Sophomore day so all Sophomore players where recognized and celebrated at the start of the game. 

Unfortunately, for the Tigers the celebration did not last long. Within the first four minutes of the game Freshmen striker Matias Daniel-Doren won a penalty kick inside the Tiger box. Sophomore Sofian Maghouz would step up to convert the kick. Giving the Lakers the 1-0 early lead. It wouldn't take long for the Lakers to get on the scoreboard again. Twelve minutes later the Lakers would be awarded a freekick outside of the Tiger penalty box. The Lakers would play the ball into the Marshalltown box where Sebastian Zapata would head the ball across the Tiger goal for Matias Daniel-Doren to volley home, 2-0 Lakers. Sofian Maghouz would add his second goal of the game right before halftime, compliments of Matias Daniel-Doren. The Lakers would go into halftime up 3-0.

 

The second half would start with more domination from the Lakers when Sofian Maghouz would score his third goal of the game to complete his hat trick. Maghouz would finish his chance setup by a pass from Sophomore Odal Brown. The Tigers would claw one back in the 67th minute off a corner kick headed home by #9 Gabriel Dias, putting the score to 4-1. Freshmen striker Jason Dyer would find the 5th Laker goal in the 85th minute off of a Jeremie Benson pass sealing the win for the Lakers.

The Lakers record moves to (8-2) and with this win should solidify the #2 seed for the Lakers going into the Conference Tournament. The Lakers will finish their regular season schedule away in Council Bluffs, IA as they take on #1 Iowa Western this Saturday, May 8th at 1 pm.
