Juliana Villa led the women again with a trio of wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle.  Villa also led off the winning 800 free relay with a meet best 200 free relay split.  Villa's time of 5:21.70 jumped her from 14th to 5th in the NJCAA National Rankings.  VIlla is also ranked nationally 3rd in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 back, 6th in the 100 free, and 8th in the 200 free. Gabriela Reis was the other Laker event winner with a season best 2:39.02 in the 200 breaststroke. That time places her 5th in the National Rankings.  Reis also finished 3rd in the 400 IM (9th in NJCAA) and 4th in the 200 IM (8th in NJCAA) at this weekend's meet.  Liz Crewe-Brown and Mavi Valentin both had top eight finishes for the Laker Women.  "Juilana had a great meet and continued to prove she is one of the top swimmers in the NJCAA.  She swam season-bests in nearly everything she swam.  Gabbi also had a great meet, making huge improvements from just last week.  We worked on her pacing in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke and she was able to swim exactly the way we practiced and it resulted in significant time drops in both events.  I was really impressed with her accomplishments." Stated Head Coach Todd Peters.

Jacob Bohnert, Gabriel Carmona and Garrett Nielson all contributed greatly to the men's team point totals.  Bohnert had season best swims in the 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle.  Carmona had a season-best in the 400 IM and Nielson finished the 200 butterfly for the first time in his life and his time qualified him for NJCAA Nationals.

Coach Peters was overall impressed with the team this weekend. "The men and women all had solid swims, but you could really see the effects of another tough week of training.  We haven't let up a bit this year for any of the meets, training right through them.  Next week we begin our first recovery phase which will lead to the mid-season meet at Rochester.  We will be cutting out the dryland practices, tapering the swimming and getting more sleep in preparation for swimming the fastest we have all season.  The athletes are excited for the upcoming Thanksgiving break and the lighter training load.  They are all showing great confidence in reaching their goals at Rochester."
