Laker Swimming opens season in Fort Dodge

On the Men's side, Eduardo Martiniano managed to snag a 2nd place finish in the 200 freestyle, an event that he holds the current school record in, in a tough race against Iowa Central's seasoned mid-distance group. Martiniano also had an excellent showing in the men's 100 backstroke where he earned a 3rd place finish in his off event.

Marcelo Rojas made his college swimming, and short course yard swimming debut by racing his way to a second-place finish in the Men's 100 breaststroke, where he held on for an exciting last 25 yards to secure that 2nd place finish. In that race also in the wash of that last 25 yards, sophomore Erik Graff used his race experience in his favorite event to chase down one of his opponents and grab the 3rd place finish in the Men's 100 Breaststroke behind his teammate. Rojas later went on to sneak into a 3rd place finish in the Men's 200 IM, narrowly out-touching his opponent for that 3rd place spot.

On the Women's side, the meet was highlighted by Sophomore Allison Graff and Rylee Valentine. Graff raced her way to two second-placed finishes, she finished 2nd in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and held on to a 3rd place finish in her 200 IM, all events that she raced in the 2022 NJCAA National Championships. Rylee made a splash in her first meet as a Laker by grabbing a pair of 3rd place finishes and punching her ticket to 2023 NJCAA Nationals in one go in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle.
