Lexi Chase Named Player of the Week

Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Lexi Chase, has been recognized as last week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week. This is due to her outstanding play between March 29th- April 4th, when the Lakers went 4-4

Chase had this to say about receiving this award, "I am honored to receive this award. It is a reflection of all the hard work that my teammates, coaches, and I have put in during the off-season. You cannot win games with one person and without my teammates, I would not be getting this recognition. I am excited to see how far we can go this season together."

At the plate, Chase had eighteen hits, giving her a .600 batting average for the week. She scored eleven runs while driving in nine of her teammates from the leadoff position. Chase also dominated in the circle, winning all four games she started during the week. She struck out 35 batters in 30 innings pitched.

Chase's week was highlighted in the Lakers 10-9 victory over Southwestern Community College. During this game, Chase was a perfect 3-3 with a walk, double, and homerun. She crossed the plate three times herself while scoring four of her teammates. In this game, Chase also picked up the win and struck out eight Spartan batters.

On the season, Chase is batting .518 with a .548 on-base percentage. She has 29 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, and two homeruns. She has struck out just one time on the season and walked five times. She is currently sitting third in the ICCAC for batting average. In the circle, Chase is 7-2, losing just one conference game to Division I #15 Indian Hills Community College. She has given up 35 earned runs in 56 innings pitched. Chase has struck out 56 batters and walked just nine.

"I am so proud of Lexi for receiving this award. She is one of the hardest working, most competitive people that I have had the privilege of coaching. Her hardwork and effort is really starting to show this season. She is a leader on this team both offensively and in the circle, and it is great to see her recognized for this. Chase had a big week, and I cannot wait to see how this continues throughout the season," commented Coach King.
