Chase Named a NFCA All-American

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that 36 athletes were chosen as All-Americans. One of those athletes was Iowa Lakes Community College's own Lexi Chase. Chase was named to the NFCA Junior College Division II All-American Second Team. This is the first NFCA All-American in the program since 2010. Early in the week, Chase was also one of 84 athletes named to the NFCA Junior College Division II All-Region Midwest First Team.

Chase was extremely honored by these awards and had this to say, "These awards are a huge accomplishment that not only shows what I have done as an individual but what my team at Iowa Lakes has done. As a pitcher, my success solely reflects on the success of my teammates. Without them, I would not be receiving these awards. We have each other's backs, and it allows me to perform with confidence. Thank you to my coaches and teammates for allowing me to be in a position to receive these great honors."

Chase is a freshman pitcher and outfielder from Chatfield, Minnesota. She is being recognized on both teams as a pitcher/utility player. In the circle, Chase appeared in 34 of 47 games for the Lakers. She had an overall record of 17-10, including a 7-3 record against NJCAA Division I schools.  She was top ten in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference for innings pitched (167), wins (17), saves (2), appearances (34), and strikeouts (160). Chase was also a standout in the batter's box, as she posted a .459 batting average (sixth in the conference), a .503 on-base percentage, and a .727 slugging percentage. She compiled 73 hits, including 22 doubles (third in the conference), one triple, and six homeruns. Very impressively, Chase struck out just nine times on the season and had a 22-game hitting streak. Because of her strong play all year, Chase has already been awarded ICCAC Player of the Week one time, ICCAC Pitcher of the Week two times, and NJCAA Player of the Week on time. She has also been named to the ICCAC All-Region First Team.

Coach King had this to say, "I am so unbelievably proud of Lexi and all of her accomplishments this year. She is one of the most hardworking, competitive, and humble student-athletes that I have worked with. Lexi works hard to not only improve herself but also those around her, including myself. She just makes you want to be better. This is why she is not only a great student-athlete but also a leader. I am excited that she is being recognized for her efforts this year and am excited to see what she can accomplish next year."
