Laker Softball Drop Two to #10 DMACC

The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team dropped two games to Des Moines Area Community College. Despite Jolene Jordahl throwing a good game in game one, the Lakers lost 4-0. They then dropped game two 8-2. Iowa Lakes is now 13-27 overall and 4-16 in conference play.

GAME 1: 4 (DMACC), 0 (ILCC)

The Bears got on the board first, scoring two runs on one hit, two walks, an error, and fielder's choice. They added another run in the second on a triple and passed ball. Their final two runs came in the fourth on two singles and two walks.

The Lakers were not able to score a run in the game and only mustered up two hits on the game. Macy Alderson and Ally Davis had the lonely two hits. Jolene Jordahl pitched all six innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks, while striking out three.

GAME 2: 12 (NIACC), 4 (ILCC)

Despite a leadoff triple by Abby Burgess in game two, the Lakers were not able to score her. DMACC scored one in the bottom of the first, leading the game off with a walk. She then stole second and advanced to third on a single to Leighton. The Bears third batter then hit a fly ball to Somers in right field that was caught. The runner at third attempted to tag up and score, but Somers fired the ball home to complete the double play. With a runner still at third, the Bears got an infield single to take the lead.

Iowa Lakes was able to tie the game up in the third when Burgess led off the inning with a single. She then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Myla Murphy. An infield single from Katelyn Hamm allowed Burgess to score from second. The Bears regained the lead in their half of the inning on a triple and groundout.

DMACC added to their lead in the fourth on three hits, one error, one walk, and one sacrifice fly.

Alexis Cullinane gave the Lakers hope in the sixth with a solo homerun to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Bears. They quickly responded in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring three runs on four singles and a hit by pitch.

Katelyn Hamm led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-4 with one run batted in. Alexis Cullinane was 1-3 with a homerun, while Abby Burgess added a triple and one run scored. Taylor Larson pitched 5.2 innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned. She did this on eleven hits and four walks, while striking out two. Tatiyana Schack threw .1 innings, allowing one hit and one strikeout.

Iowa Lakes will continue their road trip at Hawkeye Community College tomorrow, April 21st. Games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
