(Estherville, Iowa) — Iowa Lakes Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Long as the new Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Sports Shooting teams.

Brian brings decades of experience and a deep passion for the sport of clay shooting, as well as a strong commitment to mentoring young athletes. His journey with the sport began in his teenage years, participating in numerous competitions and steadily developing his skills.

Brian has dedicated much of his career to coaching and fostering youth involvement in shooting sports. He served three years as an assistant coach with the Whittemore American Legion, where he helped young shooters develop both their technical skills and their sportsmanship. For the past five years, he has contributed significantly to Iowa Lakes' sports shooting program as an assistant coach, playing an integral role in the growth and success of the college's student-athletes.

In addition to his coaching credentials, Brian is the current president of the Palo Alto County chapter of Pheasants Forever. His efforts to promote outdoor activities and connect youth with nature earned him an induction into the Hall of Fame in 2019. He also holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL), underscoring his commitment to safety and responsible firearm use.

"We are excited to have Brian step into the head coach role for our Sports Shooting teams," said Troy Larson, Athletic Director and Dean of Students. "His passion for the sport, combined with his proven ability to mentor and develop student-athletes, makes him a tremendous fit for this position. Brian has already made a meaningful impact on our program, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow under his leadership."

Brian and his wife Jean have been married for 35 years and have four children and several grandchildren. His family's support and shared love of the outdoors have been a cornerstone of his coaching philosophy and personal life.
